I would like to start out by saying this is my first post on the board. I became wrapped up in this when I happened to watch the "Dark Minds" episode on TV and started to Google more information about EAR. Next thing you know i was reading Sudden Terror, waking up in the middle of the night and checking my doors and windows. This POS scares the hell out of me!
Having said that, I know little about the details of these cases compared to many that are on this board, but I will give my two cents on how I picture this guy from a personality stand point.
1. As a kid he was a spoiled brat, "mommy" did everything for him growing up.
2. Only child, If he was still in school for either the ransacking or Ear crimes a brother or sister would have known if he was sneaking out ect. Also, I'm sure they would have found some of his stolen items in his room, back pack, car ect. (I know I was always sneaking into my older brothers room when he was gone and playing with all his stuff)
3. Loner, Maybe his love for dogs came from it was his only friend growing up.
4. I don't believe the certain kind of knots he used had anything to do with a sexual fantasy, just a means of better security of his victims.
Like I said I am no expert, but just my opinions.
Lastly, I would like to ask has anyone ever looked at the possibility of tracking him through "change of address" at the post office. I have no idea if it can be done, but we have a time line (sort of) on where we think he might have lived, and when and where he might have moved (Southern Cal). For example, if the consensus is that he lived in Rancho Cordova say through 1978 and then moved south, maybe there is a way to track all that submitted address changes from Rancho Cordova to Irvin (just to name one place down South close to the ONS crimes) and so on. If there were 300 submitted for example then at least that is names on paper and all potential suspects. from that point you cold eliminate based on age, sex, ect. and also cross reference those with anyone prior that slipped through the cracks but might be in the files. Like I said i'm not an investigator and have no knowledge of how to investigate, but if this is at all possible I believe you could put this puzzle together and put this mother in the ground.
