Hi there! I'm new to the forum after lurking for the past 9 months. More on that below. I finally joined because I can't seem to find the answer to a question I have. My background is more in science so I'm clueless about how the law works. I'm wondering though, if the rapes are past their statute of limitations, will prosecutors still be able to use their evidence for the murders? For example, if JJD does have a small penis, and there were reports of this in the rapes, can it be used? If they found items stolen in the rapes when they raided his home, are those admissible in the murders? Also, what about the composites from the rapes?
I'm assuming they would link the rapes to the murders via DNA, but is the evidence actually permissible given the SOL for the rapes is up? I apologize if this has been asked before and I have overlooked it. Also sorry for bringing up the penis again (I did so because apparently they thought it was important enough to want photographs, so I'm assuming it's relevant).
My background: I started lurking here in September after seriously wondering if my (former) neighbor was the EAR/GSK. He had a long history of very angry and aggressive behavior towards multiple neighbors on my street- to the point that we started joking that he was a serial killer. I live in Davis (where 3 of the rapes took place) and one day decided to google whether there was a wanted serial killer in the area and discovered the EAR/GSK. I had lived here for 18 years but was completely unaware of the EAR/GSK. This had been haunting me for 8 months because my former neighbor (he moved away a few months ago) very much resembles the composites and is a dead ringer (no pun intended) for some of the age-progressed ones. He also hit many of the profile boxes and was a contractor who was into boating (and probably could tie diamond knots). This drove me bananas for months. I was debating whether to send the tip in, but never did so because I didn't want to incriminate someone who may be innocent. It boiled down to me not feeling like my actual life was threatened (or feeling the threat of being raped) when I encountered him alone. He was otherwise extremely threatening and menacing and just a bully. Ironically, one neighbor suggested that it couldn't be him, because serial killers "don't just stop". I guess we're all waiting for more DNA evidence to come in to see if this is the case or not.
My experience also makes me wonder if JJD's neighbors don't regret suspecting him as the EAR/GSK. It sounded like they were aware of his anger issues and he even threatened to kill someone's dog. I know hindsight's always 20/20 but I can't help but wonder if he lived on my street if I would have actually called it in, given my suspicion of an innocent person but who had similar anger issues.
