I know we're all now making sense of a lot of clues that we combed through a thousand times. But I'm still floored at the many clues there were that pointed to the EAR possibly being a cop, yet that theory was never a solid angle. For one, it was constantly brought up in Sudden Terror and HAP and other places: How the hell does the EAR know when the cops are coming and how does he always manage to stay just one step ahead of them? Shelby even pondered clues and statements made by witnesses and victims that "possibly described a cop" - Flashlights? Holster belt? gun belt? Then there was the one BIG one that got Shelby really wondering - the victim who said she heard his police radio right outside her window just a few minutes before he rang her bell, but Shelby said it wasn't him. HMMMMMMMM???
Then of course, after it was determined or speculated that since the EAR was always one step ahead and always knew where police officers were stationed in the areas, a thread here was started that got us all looking into radio/scanners that anyone could have gotten back in the 1970s from Radio Shack. Why didn't we pursue a REGULAR POLICE SCANNER angle? And of course, Trubuco posted a list of very convincing evidence that the EAR was most likely a cop. A lot of us could not accept that the EAR might be a cop. The betrayal is too deep to acknowledge.
Here's an observation made by a poster who just joined this board a week before the arrest, and beneath it is an excerpt I took from HAP:

this is from redditor lisbethborden on the earons reddit page - so credit to him/her. I also refined the audio in Audition a little bit l and I can now hear it clear as day, but you can hear it even without messing with the audio.
"Pardon me for being somewhat new to the case, as this may have been discussed before ad nauseam... I know the TV movie in the background of the "Gonna kill you" call has been identified, but does anyone else hear the sound of two-way radio (like police or paramedics etc use)? It starts at the 42-43 second mark, there are clicks, static, then at 45 seconds, sounds like a male voice on that radio says 'okay...allllright...' or somesuch. It sounds separate from the movie dialogue. Was it part of the movie?
As I said, I'm pretty new here, but I've never seen it mentioned. Anyone else hear it? To me it was unmistakably a police radio, but what do I know?"

Attack #16
Pre-Attack Events
Early February, 1977
A house near the victim's was burglarized. The upstairs window was the point of entry. The police were called but no one responded to take a report. This same neighbor, in mid March, sees what she thinks is a police officer near the victim's house late at night.
Immediate Aftermath
April 2nd, 1977 4:30 AM or 5:00 AM
(HAP: A neighbor sees a small foreign vehicle circling the block several times. This is in the time frame that the EAR leaves the victim's house.)
April 2nd, 1977 6:00 AM
A next-door neighbor looks outside of her window because her dog is barking. She sees a dark-colored vehicle (HAP: possibly brown or even purple), full-size, loud exhaust backing out of the victim's driveway. She didn't see the driver. I rarely offer commentary but this sighting is strange for a few reasons. For one, according to source material the police should've been here by now if the police were indeed called shortly after 5:00 AM. It's possible that the neighbor saw a police vehicle, but according to Shelby no police vehicle on the scene matched this description.
