I am fairly certain nothing would have happened at that moment so to me that isn't even a concern. That being said, what good could possibly happen? you give the guy you are pretty sure is the GSK a great heads up. Maybe he shoots himself to prevent any repercussions. Even worse maybe Holes tripping over himself and saying something causes JJD to hurt someone else?
And for what? The entire purpose of the surveillance is to watch him and pick up a dna sample. He isn't going to give one to Holes if he asked. It's just a really bone headed thing to do that could only have destroyed decades of work.
Reread my original post, and don't cherry pick.
"...you give the guy you are pretty sure is the GSK a heads up." I'll try one more time with you, slowly: if Inv. Paul Holes had walked up to that door, J.J.D. was not going to flat out waste him; he'd have either left the knocking go unanswered, or he'd have told Holes to get lost. Either way, it would have alerted J.J.D. to police movements, and at this stage in his life (especially with a daughter and grandkid living with him), I think he'd have run rather than shooting it out with a lone cop asking--in a long shot play--for a saliva wad.
Paul Holes DID NOT walk up to the door, so calm down.
The surveillance crew did their job; they surreptitiously scored his D.N.A. What more do you want? You're making a mountain out of a molehill: "But! But! Paul Holes nearly screwed this up." He didn't. Joey's in the can.
Not everyone is going to agree with you--even when you try to jam your thesis down everyone's throats.

Hey guys:
The point I was trying to make this morning when I kicked off this discussion was not even about him being contemplating going up to the door. My point was that just the fact that Paul holes is in the neighborhood could have tipped off jjd. It'd be one thing if any other cops showed up and he didn't answer the door and then the cop left. But if he saw Paul holes hanging out in the neighborhood he would know exactly what that dude is there for. Even if Paul holes didn't come up to the door.
I wasn't even talking about the potential for a shootout. While I think that could or could not have happened if he would have went to the door. That wasn't my point. I just thought it was a boneheaded move for him to even consider going to the area as high-profile as he was. At that point in the investigation pre-arrest I could have picked Paul holes out of a lineup of 2000 men. I bet jjd knew who exactly who he was.
If he would have spotted Paul holes, he wouldn't have hung around afterwards. Soon as Paul left he would have either committed suicide or went on the Run. I think that might be the point Walters trying to make. In the post murderinc. just made kind of goes along with what I'm saying.
