My speculation is simple: The Santa Paula Airport in Ventura, CA was taken over by the CIA as a place to train pilots and stage their runs to Central America and Iran. I also speculate that DeAngelo was recruited to be trained at this facility. In addition, I believe he ended up at this facility through his connection with Steve McQueen and racing and/or though his cocaine connections.

Please read this article about Mena Intermountain Municipal Airport and another about the plane the CIA left in Costa Rica. It mentions that there were payoffs to the state. This makes me want to speculate and ask the question: Did the CIA payoff the state of California or Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties to look the other way in Santa Barbara and Ventura during GSK's killing spree?

gskonstracker I'm far from narrowminded but you don't think it's more likely that the simplest explanation is true and all the people looking for EAR/ONS were just imcompetent bumbling fools rather than there was a conspiracy in place?

For years many of us postulated about corrupt LE, and were repeatedly told there was no evidence to support this theory. And then JJD is captured, and who would have guessed it, but he was an active member of LE at the time of most his attacks. So he was the very definition of a corrupt member of LE.

And I see so many posters backtracking or re-explaining themselves.

Prior to JJD being caught, many people thought the simplest answer was that earons was a lowlife transient painter. Now that he is caught, posters again want to claim another "simplest answer" must be true. Incompetency is one thing, but to have it in almost every jurisdiction he committed crimes, and with every murder he committed, is beyond reasonable. There has to be another answer for it. Incompetency doesnt explain it away. Localized corruption in the jurisdictions he committed crimes in does.

A conspiracy only needs two people. The other person might have participated willingly, unwittingly, or been blackmailed into it. It might even be quid pro quo. Overlooking another cops drug problem, or taking money for not writing tickets, or double dipping. Or for giving a false alibi.

I read one great story. In a medium size town the drug dealers and cooks would come and go, but there was one guy always stuck around. It turned out he was a snitch. And the people that bought and sold were just sitting ducks until this guy snitched on them. But if it was known to many, how did this guy get his stuff? The local cops would make a bust and then bring the drugs for him to sell. That isnt incompetence. That is just good business. And that is pretty good job security as long as the same Sheriff stays in power. But what happens when a new sheriff gets elected?

Another town, people got suspicious about a plane that would fly through at night, and not land. Just fly low above the runway and then off again. Some people went to the sheriff, but he said he was to busy fighting real crime, not chasing imaginary planes. So the state police got contacted, and staked out the airport. It turned out the plane was dropping a duffel bag full of drugs, and then a pick up truck was picking up the drugs. They arrested the guy, and it turned out it was the sheriffs son. That sheriff wasnt incompetent. And what other local cops would have searched the active sheriff's son's truck?

I liked a lot of Kenji's stories as well. But I just cant imagine that two Newport Beach cops would pull him over, search his car, and then stare directly at two kilos of cocaine and not know what it was. As if cops didnt watch Miami Vice back then? Kenji was a snitch, and he was hauling cocaine to the Crips in South Central. Has anyone read Gary Webb? He had an attorney he was working for. He worked with a corrupt LE officer, who didnt claim defamation against any of Kenji's writings. Instead he just resigned shortly after the book was published.

There is a clear difference in the type of victims in the ONS phase, compared to the EAR phase. I absolutely do not believe that JJD being fired was the impetus to travel all the way to Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Orange Counties and commit murders. If revenge was the motive, then why a gated community? Or people who all had recent relationship changes like marriage or divorce, or legal issues. All people who, on the surface, have nothing to do with his troubles in Sacramento. There is a reason why he murdered these people, and it is simple. But it isnt the answer that most of the posters want to believe.

I found this article interesting. It has nothing to do with my beliefs, but it is a poll that appeared in a police magazine during the 2016 elections. All the respondents were LE, and since JJD was a cop, and he committed crimes in two Presidential Counties, and in and around the State Capitol, and he was an active duty cop during his ear phase, and while he attacked numerous military families, he never attacked an LE family, I thought I might post this. Again, this in no way reflects my political views.

I’m sorry, did I miss something about JJD and cocaine connections? Or are you implying that, since he was a cop, he would’ve had connections to drug dealers that just kinda ran down the road from there?

I’m not judging and I think this is interesting. I just want to know more.

Let me first say that I do believe that the CIA was running guns-for-cocaine operations through small regional airports during the late 1970s through the late 1980s, so the following is not disputing that possibility in your hypothesis. However, there seem to be (at this point of what you have posted) large leaps of speculation that you will need to connect-the-dots if this is to taken seriously. For example:

1) That the CIA was using this particular airport for their nefarious activities.
2) That JJD had ANY connection to Steve McQueen. McQueen's love of racing is well documented, but I have only seen vague speculation that JJD was involved with racing. And merely the speculated "fact" (if true) that both were involved in racing does not mean that they knew each other.
3) That JJD had any "cocaine connections" (again, nothing but speculation).
4) That JJD (who was not a pilot that we know of - no FAA license or known training) was recruited as a pilot when many qualified pilots were available post Viet Nam.

I've been finding some articles that I think are of interest to this avenue of research. What I have found so far are the names of people that could be interviewed to find out if the know DeAngelo and if he was hanging out in the airplane hanger with the McQueens. 

Here is what I have been reading. There is no clear explanation for McQueen chose to move to Santa Paula unless he was aware of Sammy Mason's flying skills and wanted to learn from the best.

This whole thing is theater of the absurd. It's almost a game to see how outrageous people can get with entirely unfounded speculation - it would be funny except it's vaguely insulting to the actual victims who suffered at the hands of this individual. Instead we are trying to tie him to movie stars, non existent race tracks, giving him pilot skills and tying him to a coke trade.
