Daily Telegraph staff PEARISBURG, Va. — The search to find Andrea Walnes is over, but how she died remains a mystery. The 18-year-old Virginia Tech coed, from Woodbury, Conn., had not been seen since she disappeared along the New River July 4. Her badly decomposed body was discovered by hunters Friday in a mountainous section of Giles County, said Sheriff's Investigator Willie Lucas. Dr. David Oxley, state medical examiner for western Virginia, released Walnes’ body to her relatives Monday, after con-clusively identifying her through dental records, Lucas said. Oxley performed an autopsy on the body, but could not say how Walnes died, he added. Walnes’ body was found in northeastern Giles County — near Gold Bond, Va., an unincorporated residential section of Big Stony Creek. That site is about 30 miles from the New River community of McCoy Falls, where she was last seen, and is a wooded, isolated area, Lucas said. Police do not know how her body got there. Composite sketch of man ... last seen with Walnes Police are still looking for the man Walnes was last seen with July 4. He is described as between 25 to 35 years old, 6 feet tall. 150 pounds, with black hair and a ruddy complexion. Walnes was last seen entering a black CJ5 or CJ7 Jeep with no doors and a faded canvas top, being driven by the above subject. Anyone with information about the above subject is asked to contact the Giles County Sheriff's Department at (703) 921-3842.
