You are confusing Jessica Lloyd with Corporal Marie-France Comeau. Comeau was found in her home. Jessica Lloyd was the one abducted and taken to his cottage on the lake. She was not in the military. The tire tread situation happened because of Lloyd's case, not Comeau's.

The CPK was organized and patient.

He may have been actively seeking the perfect 'COUPLE VICTIMS who fit his criteria.  Not just a 20 year old white male who owned his own vehicle and had a female with him on a weekend night, but also who had very caring parents.   He may have been a position where he was able to witness the bonds between the fathers and sons, parents and sons, siblings and brother.  He may have overheard conversations so knew which of the boys he stalked would be out on a legal holiday weekend, and accompanied by a female.  

The CPK could have been following David and his group around during the evening - to the sold out Dragnet movie, then to the arcade.  At that time, David may have still just been a "potential" victim as part of a pool of others he was gathering information on in anticipation of a legal holiday weekend. He could have been close enough to overhear David tell Robin he'd be going back to her house to get her.  Or, he could have been watching/stalking David that night, just watching David through the window as he sat eating pizza with his brother. When David left to get Robin, the CPK could have followed him and decided to attack David and Robin, acting on impulse, right then and there instead of waiting for a legal holiday weekend.  This could be why David and Robin were one of the only victims attacked on a week night.

Yes I've heard of David Russell Williams his a very strange one, I think there are plenty of killers out there who hide behind the mask of being an "upstanding" member of society, for the more intelligent ones I think this is all part of a challenge they enjoy, dealing with people in their everyday life and them not knowing what vicious characters they are.

In 1965 a 40 year old woman went missing. Her body turned up in a creek and her death was ruled a suicide drowning.

14 years later, a highway patrol officer's wife reported to police that her husband murdered his ADOPTIVE MOTHER when he was 15 years old, who happened to be the woman mentioned above. The woman's body was exhumed and another autopsy showed there was a bullet in her head. It turned out that while the woman was giving her adoptive son a hard time over his report card and his girlfriend, the son shot her in the head.

A judge felt that since the son had been living free for 14 years and he was a decorated Vietnam Vet. and his crime would not deter similar ones, he sentenced him to probation and no jail time. As time past, the man applied for a position once again with the highway patrol. During the hiring process, a routine background check showed he murdered his mother. I don't know if they hired him or not  or what happened to him after that. 
I haven't dug into this guy at all, other than what I'm posting in this PM. I don't know who the adoptive father/woman's husband was, or if there were siblings.

I find the story interesting for these reasons:

- he was in Cuyahoga Falls, Akron Ohio in 1979 when Beard & Leonard were killed,
- the adoptive mother was SHOT IN THE HEAD,
- her body was dragged to, then dumped into a CREEK,
- Beard's and Leonard's bodies were concealed, just like this woman's body,
- Michael Margaret and David Knobling were both adopted,
- the guy was a highway patrolman
- he is a Vietnam Vet
- one motive for shooting the adoptive mother was a "girlfriend"

I'd like to know if he was in Bluefield in 1978. He would have been 28 years old then.

On the side note regarding the judges decision:

What about justice for the murdered woman? Punishment for her killer.

If a 15 year old boy can kill his own mother in their home in cold blood, drag her body out of the house and dump her in a creek like a sack of potatoes, there's no way he isn't a danger to society.  He had to have seen a lot of blood. He saw his mother's face as she lay dead on the floor. After dumping her body, he still had to clean up the mess. While she was missing, he probably went on with his life like nothing happened. Psychopath trait!!!

His motive was a mere lecture over his report card and girlfriend. He didn't say anything about abuse, or that his mother was cold-hearted, overbearing or unreasonable. No mention of remorse. Then he went on to become a highway patrol officer, which is frequently chosen profession of criminal psychopaths. And he was in Vietnam? That would have messed up his head even more!  There was no mention of therapy in the 14 years he was free. Or remorse. Psychopaths put up great fronts. They're great actors, masters of deception and copycats of emotion which is probably how he got away with not appearing suspicious while his mother was missing.

The judge believed that he was just a kid when he committed the crime. If he was capable of murder as a kid, who knows what he was capable of as an adult. And how doesn't the judge know the guy didn't commit other murders? No one knew he killed his mother for 14 years.  Didn't the judge consider there may be more dead bodies behind this man? So we only have the killers word for what the reason was for killing his Adoptive Mom?  How do we know the Mom didn't confront him for something far worse than a bad report card or his relationship with his girlfriend?  Who kills their mom for just that?  IMHO he killed her to keep her quiet.  She found out something about this kid that he couldn't have anyone else knowing.  At 15 he already knew that placing a body in the water would destroy evidence and possibly the cause of death.  Why did the Coroner rule suicide, did the Mom have a past history of suicide attempts?

Those are all great points you brought up.  I thought it was odd that the coroner ruled her death a suicide. I've never heard of a woman commiting suicide by drowning herself.  Not to mention, she was first mysteriously missing.  

I can't find anything about her disappearance.  I found an obit of the son. After I read it I wondered if it was authentic. Anyone can post an obit about anyone....

Those are all great points you brought up.  I thought it was odd that the coroner ruled her death a suicide. I've never heard of a woman commiting suicide by drowning herself.  Not to mention, she was first mysteriously missing.  

I can't find anything about her disappearance.  I found an obit of the son. After I read it I wondered if it was authentic. Anyone can post an obit about anyone....

Well after much thought about reasons to kill one of your parents, I remember being in court for the sentencing of a young man who did kill his birth mom because she kept telling him to get a job...  instead he stabbed her many times and didn't even try to hide the fact...  so I guess someone might kill their mom over just a bad report card?  I don't find any more criminal activity on this David Hume, so maybe he did go on and lead a normal life with no further criminal activity?

Those are all great points you brought up.  I thought it was odd that the coroner ruled her death a suicide. I've never heard of a woman commiting suicide by drowning herself.  Not to mention, she was first mysteriously missing.  

I can't find anything about her disappearance.  I found an obit of the son. After I read it I wondered if it was authentic. Anyone can post an obit about anyone....

Well after much thought about reasons to kill one of your parents, I remember being in court for the sentencing of a young man who did kill his birth mom because she kept telling him to get a job...  instead he stabbed her many times and didn't even try to hide the fact...  so I guess someone might kill their mom over just a bad report card?  I don't find any more criminal activity on this David Hume, so maybe he did go on and lead a normal life with no further criminal activity? 

That could be the case.  However, IMO miniscule motives given for killing such as these 2 boys mentioned are mere excuses for psychopaths.   In reality, they kill to kill because they want to kill and that's their true motive/reason. The mothers were readily available and accessible.

They still lived at home with their parents.  None of them were an only child.  They all had had siblings of whom they were close to.  They all had a lot of friends.  Their parents cared deeply for them and were protective of their well-beings. This showed when they were missing for merely a few hours and the parents immediately became concerned.  After which, the parents called the police, told their other children, and even went out to look for their sons themselves. 
There must be something about these young men, or who they represent, that enraged the CPK to the point where he wanted to do more to them than just kill them.  The CPK had to kill the young man AND his date. His male victims had to be terrorized, humiliated, made to cry, made to feel desperate and helpless.  The CPK had to have all the power and control, and the male victims had to see it and know it.  The CPK had to see his male victims suffer.  The CPK had to make the females watch as their dates/boyfriend were reduced to powerless, meek, scared, helpless boys.

I am beginning to think he stalked some of the male victims.  The CPK could have stalked a bunch of different 20 year old boys, not just those who he settled on and killed, prior to attacks. He could have been preparing for a Legal Holiday attack, a weekend night.   All the while, looking into potential victims - first off, finding 20 year old's who were 6 feet tall.  Then see - if they dated, had a girlfriend, played sports, lived at home or on his own or with room mates or with a girlfriend or if he was married, if he owned a car or drove his parents car, was a nerd or good looking and popular, where he worked or went to school, fit or overweight, etc...…  I do believe there is a good chance the CPK selected and stalked his male victims way in advance.  

This killer may have a compulsion issue or disorder. The crimes had to be exactly right. The target had to be exactly right. He had to fold the clothes, he couldn't just throw them in the vehicles. He had to park the cars, he couldn't just leave them anywhere or parked crooked, he had to park them. He couldn't abduct someone at 9 or 10, it had to be around midnight. It couldn't be on a Wednesday - it had to be a weekend night.   There had to be a female/date present, the male couldn't be alone or with another friend.  The victim's couldn't be Latin, Asian, Black, or any other race, he had to be white.  The male victim couldn't be short, had had to be tall. He couldn't be obese or unfit, he had to be athletic.  He couldn't be borrowing his parent's, grandparent's, uncle's or brother's car, he had to have his own car.  The females could not be wearing their shoes - their shoes had to be removed.  


Colin Ireland

A straight man, Ireland went to gay clubs and found men who were interested in BDSM — specifically those who wanted to be tied up. He thought this was the easiest way to overpower his victims.

Anders Breivik

Anders Breivik, the Norwegian who bombed a government building before opening fire at a summer camp, killing 77 people in 2011, targeted victims who had a “leftist” look. His motive was political, but even within the location (a liberal political party’s children’s camp) he selected the most liberal looking people. A youth present as his mass killing, Adrian Pracon, recalls how Breivik selected not to kill him because of his look, “I remember him pointing the gun at me for quite a long time before he took it down, turned and walked away.”

The BTK

Dennis Rader, The BTK (Bind, Torture, Kill) Killer who terrorized Wichita for three decades, selected his victims carefully, stalking them for a period of time before killing them. He once sent a near-victim a note when he had stalked her home, intent on killing her when she came home from work — but she randomly choose not to that night, it read “Be glad you weren’t here. Because I was.” He chose victims based on his sexual fantasies — basically wandering around his everyday life until he “locked” in on someone (usually a few girls at a time) at which point they inevitably became his victims.

Rader explained how, in most of his cases, he chose and then stalked several people at a time -- referring to them as "projects" or "potential hits."

"If one didn't work out, I just moved to another one," Rader said.

Rader told the court he selected his victims as he played out fantasies. Asked what kinds of fantasies he was having, Rader said "sexual fantasies."

"If you've read much about serial killers, they go through what they call different phases. In the trolling stage, basically, you're looking for a victim at that time. You can be trolling for months or years, but once you lock in on a certain person, you become a stalker. There might be several of them, but you really hone in on one person. They basically become the ... victim. Or, at least that's what you want it to be," Rader said.

He told the judge he had prepared a "hit kit," equipment he used in the killings, as well as "hit clothes" that he wore and later got rid of.

Rader said he chose Shirley Vian, 26, at random and forced his way into her apartment with a .357-caliber Magnum handgun on March 17, 1977. Her children "got real upset," so Rader had her lock them in a bathroom before covering her head with a bag and strangling her.

In more than one case, Rader said he took Polaroid photos of his victims. After killing Marine Hedge in April 1985, Rader said, he stripped his victim, tied her up, took her to another location, then took photos depicting "different forms of bondage" before hiding her body in a ditch.

Robert Hansen

An experienced hunter, Robert Hansen would abduct women and then fly them to the Alaskan wilderness and release them so that he could “hunt” them. All his life Hansen had been rejected by women, he picked young, attractive women to be his victims because it was his opportunity for revenge. Sometimes after abducting and raping a woman, he would let her go if he was certain she wouldn’t turn him in to the police.

Richard Chase

Richard Chase was a serial killer who was convicted of killing six people. Afterwards he would drink their blood and eat parts of their body. A schizophrenic, Chase would try to enter homes at random, but would always leave if the door was locked. To him, a locked door meant the person inside did not want him there but an unlocked door was “an invitation.”

Ted Bundy

Bundy was motivated by the deep-rooted sense of rejection he had harboured since being dumped by his first girlfriend. "It was a slap in the face to Ted who was trying to become somebody special," Berry-Dee said. "He harboured a grudge."

Indeed it is claimed he even selected victims that were a "carbon copy" of his former flame, choosing to kidnap, beat, rape and mutilate young women who were in the 'prime of their lives' and looked strikingly similar to the brunette who broke his heart.

"If you were to put all his victims lined up together you would think they were all sisters," Berry-Dee pointed out.

As a young man, Bundy dated an "extremely attractive" girl with long dark hair who he thought would be his "arm candy for years to come", Berry-Dee said. But things went wrong when he was introduced to her wealthy parents.

Edmund Emil Kemper

On December 18, 1969, Kemper was released on parole from Atascadero.[23] Against the recommendations of psychiatrists at the hospital,[2] he was released into the care of Clarnell—who had remarried and taken the surname Strandberg, then divorced again—at 609 A Ord Street, Aptos, California, a short drive from where she worked as an administrative assistant at the University of California, Santa Cruz.[29] Kemper later demonstrated further to his psychiatrists that he was rehabilitated, and on November 29, 1972, his juvenile records were permanently expunged.[30] The last report from his probation psychiatrists read:

If I were to see this patient without having any history available or getting any history from him, I would think that we're dealing with a very well adjusted young man who had initiative, intelligence and who was free of any psychiatric illnesses ... It is my opinion that he has made a very excellent response to the years of treatment and rehabilitation and I would see no psychiatric reason to consider him to be of any danger to himself or to any member of society ... [and] since it may allow him more freedom as an adult to develop his potential, I would consider it reasonable to have a permanent expunction of his juvenile records.[

Kemper has stated in interviews that he would often go hunting for victims after his mother's outbursts towards him, and that she would not introduce him to women attending the university where she worked. He recalled: "She would say, 'You're just like your father. You don't deserve to get to know them'."[38] Psychiatrists, and Kemper himself, have espoused the belief that the young women were surrogates for his ultimate target, his mother, and that the humiliating acts he committed on his mother's corpse support this hypothesis.[39]

Jesse Pomeroy
Jesse must have suffered from some kind of familial mental illness, although despite some thorough investigations, none was found in his relatives. He was the product of a broken family, they said. Indeed, his parents were separated and when they'd been together, there had been plenty of physical and mental abuse. He was bullied, they concluded, which had caused him to be a bully and want to kill others. Perhaps he was jealous, they said, jealous of the children's beauty and loving homes.

The above highlighted items all had me thinking that the POI may have had jealousy toward or a serious falling out with a sibling, male, that had many of the features you described and who possibly was favored by the parents. POI being the outcast and suspect(s) being the favored son who had everything he did not, including a good rapport with girls ie girlfriends as well as girls as friends which is represented in the victim pool.

Can't exactly say why I feel it's a familial gripe but that came as I read thru your description

Jeff Lee Scott (20) and Karen Noble were murdered in Bluefield in 1978.  It is very possible they were the CPK's first victims.

born Feb. 14, 1957, in Bluefield.
Parents:  Glenn Scott and Louise Gilmer Scott. 
His parents were prominent members of Bluefield County society.
His father was a former Bramwell mayor of Bramwell, Bluefield, WV.
Jeff graduated from Bramwell High School in 1975.
He was a member of the National Honor Society.
Member of the Bramwell Presbyterian Church.
He worked at Limestone Dust Corporation in Bluefield during summers.
He had one brother: Stephen Scott of the home. 
3 sisters:  Carol, Sandra, Sharon.
The family home was right next to a river.

Is it possible the Jeff knew his killer?  If so, his motive could have been jealousy?  Jealous of all Jeff had in his life that he may not have had - caring, protective parents, a successful father, a beautiful house right by the river, siblings he was close to, popularity, academic achievement, the same part-time job every summer, his own truck, a smart & pretty girlfriend, and still living comfortably at home at the age off 20?

If that was the case, maybe the killer had an absent father or his father was a drug addict, alcoholic or felon, his mother neglectful, and he didn't have any siblings. Maybe the killer didn't own his own vehicle and had to borrow his father's. Or, maybe the killer lived in a group home for troubled boys, or was a foster child. Or, abandoned by his parents and raised by relatives (grandparents, aunt & uncle). The absence of sexual assaults could have been because the killer was gay, or, perhaps sexually abused in his youth. If the killer lived a group home or foster home, he would have aged out at 18. Unlike the CPK's murdered male victims who were all past the age of 18 and still living comfortably at home with their parents and siblings.


The killer may have been stalking Jeff, obsessed with Jeff, and watching him play basketball all afternoon prior to picking up Karen.  The timeline is so tight - Karen and Jeff left Karen's home at 9PM. At 11:30 the burning truck was spotted.  The killer could have followed Jeff and Karen to the movies.  While they were in the theater, he could have waited for them in Jeff's truck in the parking lot and abducted them from there.

I have no other information on the group home other than what I'm posting here, because I just found it. This particular group home was a private non-profit which housed troubled boys who were only accepted through referrals from the State Social Services Department.



Maybe LE or the FBI could find out who the troubled boys were that resided there between 1974-1978, during the time Karen and Jeff dated.

Great find Cleo!!   I cant remember, but when Jeff & Karen drove off from her house, were there any witnesses to say if there was anyone else in Jeff's truck, if not then I am pondering that maybe as Jeff drove away from Karen's house he saw one of these boys walking down the street who he might have been familiar with and gave him a lift?
