UK serial rapist who seems to have shared a lot of similarities with JJD.

Fairley started off as a burglar, and graduated to the rape of single victims and then couples.
He even raped and sexually assaulted group of three people on one occasion.
His first victim was a 'lower risk' victim, a 73 year old pensioner (Eva Taylor anyone???)
He was a married father of three, who started his series of attacks when his marriage started breaking up...
Like JJD, Fairley tied up his victims with articles from their own homes, cut telephone wires, hid and waited in homes in advance for victims, ate snacks in victim's homes, stashed away hidden rape kits in fields, fled when victims screamed, and shot left handed at pursuers when confronted prowling.
He prowled/visited crime scenes in advance, and was known as 'The Fox' because of his ability to escape capture through the woods.
Vigilante groups were set up, but Fairley was always able to elude them.
Like many serial offenders, he was caught because of his car.
Yellow paint chips (sounds familiar!!!) which he left at a crime scene were matched to his car (one of only 1,500 in that colour). The police suspected they had found the rapist when they realised a left handed, convicted burglar owned one of the distictly coloured cars.
When questioned, Fairley confessed immediately (unlike JJD of course) and in 1984 was convicted of three rapes, two sexual assaults and eight burglaries. He admitted another 68 offences which he wasn't charged with.
He said "I wanted to stop it but I couldn't".
Worryingly it seems that Fairley was released from prison in 2012. His whereabouts now are unknown.
