Current rabbit-hole theory I am exploring and wish LE would ask SH if JJD was big into drag racing as it might have been circumstantial as to getting out of the house in order to "act out":
Maybe a coincidence, maybe not. Would JJD (the mechanic who liked to ride a speedy motorcycle) "act out" before/after attending the NHRA Winter Nationals (Drag racing). AHRA dates included.
Nick had a story about the late night speedster in a vehicle being chased by LE and maybe it was JJD.......plus he was a mechanic and he liked to go fast per Holes, so why wouldn't he be a fan of.....and use as an excuse to get away from the house....some promoted professional auto-racing or motorcycle racing.
"The NHRA Winternationals (commonly called the Winternats) are an annual drag racing event held by the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, California."

Tuesday, February 5, 1974 (Possible JJD crime per Holes in recent podcast) Ventura, CA. ------ NHRA's Winternats held Feb 3, 1974, Pomona, CA.
Monday, February 7, 1977 6:45 a.m. Crestview Drive and Madison Ave., Citrus Heights[59] Sacramento---------NHRA Winternats January 30, 1977
Wednesday, February 16, 1977 10:30 p.m. Ripon Court[60] Sacramento----AHRA Winternats, January 30, 1977, Tucson, AZ
Thursday, February 2, 1978 Maggiores crime , Rancho Cordova, CA----------AHRA Winternats , January 29, 1978 Tucson, AZ
Friday, February 6, 1981, Witthuhn crime, Irvine, CA..........NHRA Winternats, February 1, 1981, Pomona, CA
TL,DR: Maybe LE should ask SH if JJD was a big race fan who took off from home (maybe work) to attend races out of town and use that time away to act out.
Thanks for reading it.
Edited to say he could stay with family/friends at away from home events and to put location of the 1974 event
Edited yet again to say that if he lost money at the events and wanted to recoup it then burglaries prowling could happen after the event
