On July 19th 1978 a typewritten letter from Los Angeles arrived at the San Francisco Chronicle stating:



"I am the ZODIAC and I am in control of all things. I am going to tell you a secret. I like friction tape. I like to have it around in case I need to truss someone up in a hurry....I have my real name on a small metallic tape. You see, while you have it in your possession, I want you to know it belongs to me and you think I may have left it accidentally. I am athletic. It could be swim fins, or a piece of scuba gear. But maybe you play chess with me. I have several cheap sets in closets all over. I have my name on the bottom of the lid with the scotch tape....My tape is waiting for me all over California. Do you know me? I am the ZODIAC and I am in control".



“Friction tape”= sex tape.


“Around in case”= featured in his cases/crimes/ movies tying people up.


“my real name on small metallic tape”= my (movie- reel name reference to movie film “small”= on Super 8 film, developed in 1932 for home movies , half the size of 16mm.


“you see”= view the film (find his cache.)

“I have several cheap sets in closets all over” = cheap B movie sets in small rooms , multiple locations.


“I have my name on the bottom of the lid with scotch tape”= 3M is the manufacturer of Scotch tape. Co- Founded by John Dwan at the John Dwan Office Building 201 Waterfront Drive Two Harbors Minnesota- Land of 10,000 Lakes.

Interesting theories, I get a different interpretation of some of the letter though. I think with the friction tape he is being more literal. I think he is revealing his methodology much like when he brought up rubber cement on his fingertips, or attaching the flashlight to the barrel of his gun. I think he is just bragging that he likes to use Friction Tape to bind his victims. It is a cloth tape, with adhesive on both sides used in electrical work. Seems like it would be effective and quick.
I think the "cheap sets" he is referring to are Chess sets. Which may be code
For kill kits he has stashed in multiple places around town. I am not sure why you mentioned JJD, however he seemed to use that technique. I am not sure but the comment about something having something that he left something on purpose, that is something JJD was also known to do.
I personally do not think JJD is Zodiac, but I certainly can't rule it out, and it makes more sense than alot of suspects that get thrown around. When JJD was first arrested people started speculating about his brother being involved with some of the GSK crimes.
If you hold any stock in the "Widows Peak" description of Zodiac, JJD's brother has the biggest widows peak I have ever seen.

I agree, JJD is working on 3 different levels.

He is not "Just" raping as the EAR, he is setting his storyline- his "Van" (military term) , "How would you like to be in the river?" . Again, many of his victims stated that his interest in the "sex" was minimal. SO then WHY ALL THE DRAMA?

Many speculate that JJD while working (as the Visalia Ransacker) in Exeter 'set up' Oscar Clifton for the murder of Donna JO Richmond ( get it JO=DJ=JD=JR another signature.) A mask is dumped at the site of Jennifer Armours body retrieval site. Apparently she hung herself with her bra and drowned! (Crazy Visalia kids!) Also Elizabeth /Beth Snellings father Claude RAY Snelling ( Journalist PROF) is assassinated in the middle of the night in said Visalia CA) 

Now, Paul Stine (the Cabbie, Journalist from EXETER  has FAMILIAR Family TIES  in Exeter.)

but lives in San Fran. He is shot behind the left( EAR)- as was David ARTHUR Farraday.

The 13 hole punch card ( Remember! Rosa Vasquez was a Key-Punch operator at 'Letterman Hospital' where Donna Lass worked, near where Stine was killed.)
