Canal and Train deaths in Auburn and Placer County

There is a documentary that has been posted on Youtube about a number of deaths in Auburn and Placer County over the past few years.

Most of the deaths are men but there was one woman as well.  The ages range from 21 to 62.  Law enforcement had ruled all the cases either accidents or suicide. 

1/14/2009    David Miller                    53    Canal  - said he was being chased.  Had head wound.  Soil on palms of hands.

1/29/2009    Bradford Ashcraft            62    Canal  - witness saw three men dump man in canal.  Wrist bruises.  Looked like cops. 

2/28/2010    Larry James                    58    Canal  - Had broken ribs and abrasions

3/26/2010    Nicasio Garcia-Bonilla      42    Canal  - was with Larry James the night he died.  Nicasio was too decomposed to eval body. 

5/5/2010      Matthew Templeman       40    Canal  -  Said police threatened him to get out of Auburn before he was found dead.                                                                              Round circles under hairline like gun muzzle bruises. 

5/27/2010    Lowell Grenon                 30    Train   -  ruled suicide despite being completely still prior to impact.   

11/23/2010  Richard Hill                     50    Canal  -  After fencing went up.  Neighbors heard fight. 

7/4/2014      Danna Bass                    36     Train  -  underwear stuffed in throat

8/6/2014      Ronny Daniel, Jr.             34     Train -   hands showed sign of a fist fight

10/25/2015  Calvin Kelley                   21     Train  -  Boot print bruise on torso.

These deaths should have had full criminal investigations as all suspicious deaths are supposed to.  It is interesting in a couple of these deaths that the decedents were threatened by law enforcement or there was a witness that thought they saw law enforcement involved with an assault or the victim had what appeared to be handcuff marks or boot marks on their body.

5/2005        Rob Neal                        27    Canal    Found with chains around his body in canal.  Car was found at Bear River camp ground                                                                            in Colfax. He lived in Auburn.  Ruled suicide. 

11/2009      Kenny Minero                         Canal    Was walking along Canal at night and someone pushed him in but he was able to get                                                                            out. He did not see who it was.  Pushed from behind. 

10/29/2015 Jeremy Hecht                 22     Park      Ruled suicide by self-immolation within 24 hours.     

8/7/2021    James Pascual Rodriguez 30     Canal     Grass Valley man found in Colfax canal at end of Lake View Rd. off Peaceful Valley Rd.  near Colfax. Feet tied with head injury . Ruled homicide. Five days in water found  during Bear River fire which started at the Bear River camp ground.  This section of the  canal was accessible only from a culdesac road.

5/22/2022 Nude male found in the canal in Auburn near 11855 Edgewood Dr. Autopsy and id pending.

Keyes stayed in Auburn and rented a car in Sac. and a kayak near Colfax I believe.

The canal system in Auburn is not something that non-locals tend to be aware of.  The canals are not visible from main roads.  They wind through neighborhoods and obscured by trees and buildings.  I would be surprised if someone like Keyes would have been aware of them.

The canal system in Auburn is not something that non-locals tend to be aware of.  The canals are not visible from main roads.  They wind through neighborhoods and obscured by trees and buildings.  I would be surprised if someone like Keyes would have been aware of them. 

He probably did plan things, and was in the area in another period of time which is unaccounted for in th Keyes timeline, as it is still being investigated for his travel periods. He would approach from multiple vectors to stash a kill kit and return sometimes years later. He would know about the canals if he went there multiple times as his m.o. suggests.
