There apparently is no DNA available relative to the Sacramento rapes. So I don't see why an A&B theory must necessarily be rejected ... just because it doesn't fit in with LE's failed investigation.

As I said in another post..If if you look at the list here   ear-ons.com/crimes.html   about April 1977 the couples start ending with Sanchez in July 1981...I would bet money all the couples were him,I would bet money all the teenage girls are him..that doesn't leave too many for other rapist...there had to be other rapes in Sacramento not linked to him,and I don't think any of those are on that list..

I propose a theory that he had a lookout for some of the Sacramento rapes because of the Maggiore sketches.. though that is highly unlikely due to the derangement of this guy,but as a another poster said?...we don't know,thats why we post..

If you go by that list? you can't really make a case for A & B....I'm pretty sure all rapes are him after april 77,and even the location of the non-couple rapes look like him...6/18/76 Fri (The first victim) is him because I think the victim got hang up calls later(I think) so logically I would assume all the 1976 rapes were him too...Tell me one rape on that list doesn't belong to him? take into account maybe one or more rapes were probably never reported,so you would most likely add to this freaks list before you subtract..

I say the list is his,but there would have to be a bunch of other rapes they think he didn't do for an A&B..maybe there is another list..i haven't seen it..

Sorry Slumber, but that third thought is pretty unlikely. EAR's m.o. was just too specific and too unique for just any poorly endowed sociopath to just decide to copy, much less get away with it multiple times.

TMAC - Just for argument's sake, in your opinion, what was unique about EAR's MO that separates him from another possible rapist?

1.  Not all of the victims described him as poorly endowed.  Also, the rapist had problems maintaining an erection in many of the rapes which may have contributed to the victim description of his penis.  By the way, difficultly maintaining an erection is not an uncommon problem in rapes.  For example, Dennis Rabbitt, the South Side Rapist from St. Louis sometimes had the same problem.  Some of his victims were unsure of whether he penetrated them or not.  Sound familiar?

2. Peeping, prowling, wearing a mask, tying up the victim, rummaging around the house, obscene phone calls - I think most of us can agree that none of these things are unique behavior for a sexual deviant.   

3.  Exactly what was done at each attack has not been released to the public.  We know very little about the details of some of the attacks, other than LE says it was the EAR.  For example, if he forced each victim to masturbate him with their hands bound their back, that is pretty specific and unusual - but, that information has not been released.  If he used the same script with each victim, that is pretty specific - but, that information has not been released.

Just brainstorming here - not saying that I am convinced there was an EAR A and EAR B - but it would be a pretty good explanation as to why we do not have any solid suspects for the EARONS after over 35 years.

Slumbergirl makes some excellent points, I personally like this theory. Just think about all the confusion with this case, its really incredible when you think about, now if you put another rapist in the mix (possibly a copycat) then some things start to make a bit more sense. Some victims say he was 18-20 and a few others 30-35, quietly breaks in and then smashes through a door. Its probably easier to catch one serial rapist than two........and your twice as likely to catch him too.

As slumbergirl points out wearing a ski mask, bindings, rummaging around, prowling are not really unique. I think confronting his victims half naked is unique (but Dennis Rabbitt did that). The crying/stuttering is also fairly unique but that can be faked. The towel ripping on the other hand does seem unique to me and the cups on the backs of victims.

I think its a dangerous game just to dismiss this theory out of hand. Gotta discriminate everything.

I guess I was not very clear in what I said. I don't think TK had anything to do with the rapes either, and I don't think he was Ear/Ons. What I was questioning, was if there was any attempt by Ear/Ons to make the investigators think he was TK, by the communication evidence that they have for example. Like the phone calls. However if there was an Ear A and B, it wouldn't surprise me.

Why do you think there's any attempt for EARONS to try to tie his actions / communications to Kaczynski? At the time of the transition to the ONS crimes there had only been two Unabomber incidents in the Midwest and both were minor. The first fatality was the computer store owner in Sacramento but I don't see any potential obfuscation or attempted linkage based on that incident. If EARONS was communicating during this period you could probably judge it against something...but as I don't see anything to judge it against I would be at a loss to even consider that scenario. Is there something specific that you're referring to??

Personally, I don't know about the EAR A and an EAR B Theory but I could definitely entertain the idea of an accomplice that wasn't involved in the crimes but served as a driver, lookout, etc. From what's been said on the board, my understanding is that the new Shelby book delves into this possibility...an occasional accomplice and facts surrounding that idea.

Sorry, Northcal, I misinterpreted your post.  I think, but I could be wrong, that the EAR phone calls were made before the Unabomber attacks.  The Unabomber attacks began in May 1978.  I am not an expert on TK, but did he even make any phone calls?  I don't think so.

Personally, I've wondered (I'm sure I'm not the only one) about some of the people that may read this website and other murder detective websites. There are victims, and detectives, and armchair detectives, but there may be people that don't have good intentions as well. At the townhall meetings in the Ear day, it could have been the same. Most people were there to help, but there could always have been an extra lurker or two that just wanted to find out more about earons signature. So they could copy it. I don't know. Maybe they eventually want to be unique so they can be recognized at the end of their serial killing days. If the serial killer craves notoriety, does he or she want to get caught eventually?

The only reason I mentioned Ted K at all, was because of the link that compared his recorded voice to the two Ear/Ons phone calls. The 'ray' phone call, and the ' I'm going to f again tonight'. They both sounded so similar to his voice that I thought they sounded like the same person. Other than that, there was no reason for me to bring him into the discussion.

Just brainstorming here - not saying that I am convinced there was an EAR A and EAR B - but it would be a pretty good explanation as to why we do not have any solid suspects for the EARONS after over 35 years. 

It's my opinion that the EAR had a very specific m.o., when you combine all those things that you listed, that as far as I am aware of has not been duplicated before or since. At least not with the success rate that he has demonstrated. His case has gained some publicity again over the last few years and still no similar crimes have popped up in that state.

Breaking into homes is easy, if you know what you are doing. That's why the Visalia connection is plausible. The Ransacker got away with it imo, because his crimes were not a priority and he did not get the full attention from Visalia LE along with all the resources at their disposal. Of course, that all changed after the Snelling incident. Before that he was given more room to practice his 'craft,' if you will.

Some idiot copycat could try to do what EAR had done, but you can not duplicate experience out of thin air, such as his extensive intel work. I'm of the opinion that if a rapist tried to do the same m.o., he would get caught right away. Maybe he could get away with it once or twice, if he was lucky, but not enough times for there to be an EAR A and EAR B.

So, you are saying that, for one thing, EAR's ability to avoid capture and detection sets him apart from other rapists? I think that is a very good point - and, it is one that we know is absolutely correct. We also know that each of 50+ rapes generally attributed to EAR have never been solved. So, either the rapes were committed by two very skilled prowler/rapists - or they were committed by the same guy.

I wouldnt call them skilled, per-say, not as much as any other common criminal. Thieves alone borrow tactics quite often though, especially if they know eachother and have spoken about em.

Im not making my mind up the theory, so dont think I disagree. I just think that its not as much of a long shot that there was multiple perpetrators. Problem is that ear A and ear B would have likely needed to know one another, which is puzzling in itself. Then again, I feel like its anyones guess

Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns -- the ones we don't know we don't know. And if one looks throughout the history of the EARONS case, it is the latter category that tend to be the difficult ones.

OK, I admit it. I stole that quote from former Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld. Anyway, casting doubt on the EAR A and EAR B theory by considering the odds against having two almost identically stealthy prowler/rapists, is a theory I like - because it is one of the few Known knowns. So much of the other other stuff about this case seems to fall under the categories of:

There Is No EAR A Or B But There Were Many Rapists In Sacto At That Time. And EAR Had An Accomplice On A Couple Crimes In The Beginning. But Got Rid Of Him Because He Was A Reckless psycho That Was Going To Get Him Caught. And As The VR He Also Had An Accomplice On A Few Crimes. But They Abandoned That Because Everyone Thought He Looked Older In His 20s Or 30s And That Is Because He Was Big 12-13-14 Year Old As Vr. And When He Was 15-16 He looked Like A 19 Year Old. When He Was 17-18 He Looked Like He Was 22-24 Thats How He Got Away With The Real Estate Crime.

In The Beginning There Was A Boy In Vasilia That Was Caught By The Police In A Situation And Because His Father Was Somebody They Let The Teen Be Picked Up By His Uncle. And The Situation Dropped. They Never Wrote Down The Kids Name In Any Report. Me/Whitmyer & Shelby Talked About This. That Kid Was My POI. So. All The Way Down The Line LE Screwed Up Big Time. How Are You Going To Listen To Anyone Who Has Not Been Able To Catch Him In Over 30 Years.

But. Both EAR And His Early Accomplice Are Both In The Composite Sketches.

Maybe it's not as specific as a EAR-A or EAR-B. But surely it's plausible that not all the rapes were committed by ONS.
