Why was this so hard? The Cordova Prowler/Ransacker of the early 70's and it all stops. Then. The Visalia Ransacker series starts and suddenly ends shortly after the Death Of Claude Snelling in late December of 1975. Then in the late Spring and early Summer of 1976 the burglaries and Rapes start in Rancho Cordova. In 1979 it all stops for Sacramento and some in the investigation are convinced the two Killings in Rancho was the work of the Ear.
Then when the pieces fit together that ONS and EAR were the same person...still no unified agreement that there was a Sacramento to Visalia back to Sacramento and on to Southern California connection. Consider this: I am asking for contributing opinions...not stating a diatribe of accusation. In 1979 if a plea went out that they were looking for an individual who lived in the Sacramento Area, moved to Tulare County and moved back, could that have drawn him as a POI back then? Then adding the element of military or law enforcement training may have increased a smaller background pool of suspects? There were so many similarities with the early Cordova cases and Visalia that a firm conclusion could have been made decades ago! Stole pictures, ladies garments, drank beer, ignored wine and liquor and expensive items...this was not common burglar stuff!
THE HAND TWISTING OF VICTIMS:
The two victims that I personally knew (Both attacked together) recited the particular hand twisting techniques used by the EAR in forcing them to submission. These twisting moves were and are popular with California Police training back then? Derived from the Japanese art of Aikido. This was either ignored or JJD just used it on a few victims or people who just did not notice?
NOW LETS GO BACK TO 1979.(IN THEORY)
A plea to the public. Law Enforcement is seeking the publics help in any information on any white male subject who lived in Sacramento Area from 1971-73 and moved to or had access to the Tulare County Area? Subject could be in late twenties and has blue eyes.
Dozens of Tips Come in:
Information was provided which give the name of JJD. Was a Navy Veteran assigned to ships where the schooling of Knotting was common. Had a B.S. In Criminal Justice with training in crime scene, fingerprints, serology, was required for the B.S. Was hired in Tulare County and the Ransacking started. Was hired in 1976 for Auburn and within a few months the rapes started. Was fired in 79 and for the most part the rapes stopped in Sacramento.
So, after 43 years I still believe if this connection would have been made...would lives have been saved? Just something to consider.
